Description
Background
Regional Development Community Berhad (RDC) is a company limited by guarantee (CLBG) established to create sustainable communities across the Asia Pacific region in a holistic approach grounded on empowerment, inclusion, social justice, and collective action. RDC collaborates with identified collaborators from these countries via community engagements, business ventures and development projects aligned with some of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One of the organisations working with RDC is the Central Mosque of Khovd City under the Mongolian Muslim Association. Khovd city is about 1,500km to the west of Ulaanbaatar, near the border of China (north-east of Urumqi). Mongolia occupies an area of 1,564,116 square kilometres with a population of about 3.3 million people. It is a massive country with a small population.
The situation of health awareness and facilities in Mongolia is about 30 years backwards. There are about 26,000 population in Khovd City. Maternal mortality is quoted as 75 deaths for every 100,000 livebirths. Based on unconfirmed data from the local doctor, many women are deprived of proper antenatal care. Many women are still giving birth at home or received inadequate medical assistance and facilities.
Improvement on awareness about health care, especially among women, is expected from this program. Training of the young doctors and medical workers will help to enhance the quality of health care services in the city.
In line with the SDG aim of ensuring healthy living and promoting well-being at all ages, RDC intends to assist the community of Khovd City through the committee of the Central Mosque by providing health screening and focusing on women’s health education. This project will improve the health awareness of the population. Based on estimate of Central Mosque committee, about 3,000 people will benefit from this programme.
